About Block Live
- Dependent upon the complexity of your tax situation, the duration of your tax interview will vary. Our default appointment time for your initial appointments will be 90 minutes.
Your tax professional will be flexible in accommodating your needs. If you would like to have a quick initial interview, send all tax documents and then have a follow-up appointment, talk with your tax professional.

- Each of our tax professionals must pass a minimum of 84 hours of specialty tax training on topics from itemized tax deductions to estate taxation. And to keep all of our associates up-to-date on the latest tax rules and regulations, we require each one of our tax professionals to take 24 hours of continuing education yearly.
Only a select number of H&R Block offices and tax professionals are participating in Block Live this year. If you are looking for a specific tax professional, they may not be available through Block Live this year.

- Once you get connected with a tax professional, you'll be able to create an account. When selecting your tax professional:
- If you choose to schedule an appointment with a tax professional you’ll be prompted to create an account.
- If you choose to “Connect Now”, after meeting your tax professional, he or she will prompt you to create your account.

- After getting started, you'll be prompted to enter your zip code, so that we can find tax professionals closest to you. Additionally, you can select areas of expertise when searching for a tax professional.
All of our Block Live tax professionals are highly trained. Each tax professional must pass a minimum of 84 hours of specialty tax training on topics from itemized tax deductions to estate taxation. Getting Started
- Some of the basic forms that are used to complete a return are listed below. You may not have all of these, but if you have received or expect to receive any of the listed forms, they must be reported on your tax return. Depending on your tax situation, here are some of the documents that may be needed to complete your taxes:
- Valid Picture ID (Driver's License, Passport, etc.)
- W-2s
- 1098s
- 1099s
- Bank statements
- Mortgage statements
- Non-reimbursed work-related expenses
- Last year's tax return (recommended)
Getting Started
- There are several options for sending tax documents to your tax professional, including:
- Attach files — Attach electronic versions of documents, such as PDFs, scanned documents, pictures, etc. to the Documents folder in your online account.
- Smartphone App — Download the Block Live Smartphone App (iPhone and Android) to take pictures of your tax documents and automatically upload the images to the Documents folder in your online account.
- Fax — Print your personalized fax cover sheet from your online account. Your faxes will automatically be digitized and added to the Documents folder in your online account.

What if I have a tax question for my Block Live tax professional right now or before my appointment?
If you have already created an account, you can click Tax Chat to send messages to your tax professional prior to (and even after) your appointment. The tax professional may respond through the chat at a later time or wait for the appointment to address the client's concerns.

- When it’s time for your appointment:
- Log into your Block Live account.
- Your tax professional will arrive at or before your scheduled appointment time.
- If you’ve not already sent your documents to your tax professional, you might choose to do so at this time. See the What do I need to provide to my tax professional? article for more information.

How do I schedule an appointment with a Block Live tax professional?
To set your initial appointment with a Block Live tax professional, you must first choose the tax professional you want to work with. After you find your tax professional, you can choose to “Connect Now” or “Schedule Appointment” dependent upon the availability of your preferred tax professional.
If you already have an account created and would like to schedule an appointment, follow the steps below:
Follow-up Appointments: Please contact your tax professional through the chat to schedule a follow-up appointment. Scheduling follow-up appointments will be available in a future release.
Scheduling Online Appointments
- To reschedule or cancel your Block Live appointment, please follow the steps below:
- Log into your Block Live account.
- Click Cancel below the appointment time listed on the right side of the page.
- Click Yes when prompted.
- Contact your tax professional to schedule a follow-up appointment.

Please log back into your account to verify that the tax professional wasn’t running late and is not currently connected to your account.- Click the button labeled Connect Live with [TaxPro Name] on the right side of the screen.
- Click the button labeled Video Conference.
- A new window labeled Adobe Flash Player Settings may appear. If so, click Allow.
To actually see the tax professional, you may need to follow the steps below:
At this point, you can schedule a new appointment if you so choose. To start this process, you just need to click the Schedule Appointment button on the right side of your Block Live account.

What if I don't have all my documents prior to my Block Live appointment?
If you are still waiting on any documents needed to complete your return, you may choose to cancel and reschedule your appointment for a date you will have all of your documents.- Log into the Block Live account.
- Click Cancel below the appointment time listed on the right side of the page.
- Click Yes.
To reschedule your appointment, you must first cancel your current appointment. Please follow the steps below:
At this point, you can schedule a new appointment if by clicking the Schedule Appointment button on the right side of your Block Live account and selecting a new date and time.
Technical Issues
- If you are able to see but not hear your tax professional, please check your audio devices (headset, computer speakers, etc.) to ensure the volume is turned up properly and your sound is not muted.
- Click Start.
- Click Control Panel.
- Click Sound and Audio Devices.
- Click the Volume tab.
- Make sure that the volume is turned up and that the boxes labeled Mute are not checked.
- Open System Preferences.
- Click Sound.
- Click Output tab.
- You will see a list of possible output devices, ensure that the appropriate device is selected. (for example, if you are using a headset, make sure it is selected.).

Technical Issues
- If you cannot see your Block Live tax professional, start by following the steps below:
- Click the button labeled Connect Live with [TaxPro Name] on the right side of the screen.
- Click the button labeled Video.
- A new window labeled Adobe Flash Player Settings may appear. If so, click Allow.
You or your tax professional may be experiencing a slow or unreliable internet connection at this time. If you continue to experience this issue, have your tax professional call you to complete the process.
Without video, you can still have a great Block Live experience over the telephone.
Technical Issues
- If you lost connection with your tax professional, log back into your account and follow the steps below to reconnect via video conference:
- Click the button labeled Connect Live with [TaxPro Name] on the right side of the screen.
- Click the button labeled Video Conference.
- A new window labeled Adobe Flash Player Settings may appear. If so, click Allow.
Technical Issues
- If you lost connection with your tax professional, log back into your account and follow the steps below to reconnect via video conference:
- Verify that your webcam is recognized by the Block Live website (See steps below).
- Click the black button labeled Settings on the right side of the screen.
- Click on the tab with the picture of a web camera (see the screenshot below).
- If you click that tab and see the words, Cannot find camera, you will need to install the webcam prior to teleconferencing with the tax professional (see the screenshot below).
- If you do not see Cannot find camera, occasionally there is a dropdown menu with different camera drivers to select. If so, verify the correct camera is selected.
- Verify that you do not have a different program using your webcam (such as Skype or some other video service).
- Did you plug in your external webcam after having started Block Live? If so, shut down your internet browser and restart your Block Live session. Your internet connection may be experiencing slow or intermittent connectivity issues due to your Internet Service Provider or another device in your home consuming internet bandwidth (watching Netflix or other movie services)
- If you’ve already initiated the video connection, but are having troubles, try stopping by selecting the End button and then restarting the video conference.
Technical Issues
- Note: Once a file has been uploaded, it cannot be deleted or removed. This is so we always have a record of what was sent to the tax professional to be used in the completion of the return.

Note: Block Live will NOT accept files larger than 5 MEG.
Technical Issues
- You will not be able to print your Block Live return until after you pay for the return. This is ensure that the return is complete and approved by you before it can be filed. Once the return is paid for, you can view and print the return by following the steps below:
- Click on the Tax Documents tab on the left side of the screen.
- Click on the Tax Return.pdf file.
The return will appear in Adobe Acrobat Reader. From there, you can save or print the return.
