Block in the Community

We are proud of the rich philanthropic tradition established by our founders Henry and Richard Bloch. Their legacies live on in all of our philanthropic efforts.

At H&R Block, we believe we have an obligation to make a difference in the communities where we do business. We are deeply committed to civic involvement, charitable giving and volunteerism. We focus our time, energy and money in the areas where we can make the greatest impact.

We call our workplace giving and volunteering program H&R Block Strength in Numbers. Our name reflects our belief that together we can make a greater impact on our community and the organizations that sustain it. There is truly strength in our numbers.

We have chosen to focus our efforts so that we can increase the impact of our giving and volunteering efforts. Our focus areas are:

  • Youth Development – helping youth develop positive relationships and personal and life skills
  • Health and Human Services – serving basic community needs, including hunger and emergency services
  • Community Revitalization – working to improve communities, foster home ownership and beautify neighborhoods
  • Arts and Culture – promoting access to the arts and arts education in local communities
  • Literacy – furthering literacy – from reading to fundamental financial skills
Through our workplace giving campaign, we support more than 20 local and national community partners, including the United Way, American Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity, America’s Second Harvest, Young Audiences, Junior Achievement and Big Brothers Big Sisters.

Through our volunteer activities, we support our community partners as well as a host of other worthy organizations. We participate in a wide range of volunteer efforts – from building houses for Habitat for Humanity to forming a national walk team in the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Light the Night Walk.

At H&R Block, we put a premium on being a good corporate citizen. As a company, we believe we have an obligation to work to improve the lives of people in the communities where we do business. And we encourage our associates to do the same.
