Form 982 — Reduction of Tax Attributes Due to Discharge of Indebtedness

Form 982 is used to report cancelled debt that is excluded from gross income. Generally, cancelled debt is included in gross income. However, there are certain situations in which the taxpayer may exclude cancelled debt from income. In these cases, the taxpayer may need to reduce certain tax attributes by the amount of the excluded income, which is reported on this form.

You can complete Form 982 using either the online or desktop version of H&R Block At Home. To access the interview, follow the steps below:

Online
  1. Click Take Me To.
  2. In the Income section, select Exclusion of Cancellation of Debt.
  3. Follow the onscreen prompts to complete the interview.

Software
  1. Click Take Me To.
  2. In the Income section, under Other Income, select Cancellation of Debt.
  3. Click the Go To button.
  4. Follow the onscreen prompts to complete the interview.

Form 1040NR — U.S. Nonresident Alien Income Tax Return

Nonresident aliens who are required to file an income tax return should use Form 1040NR or, if qualified, Form 1040NR-EZ.

H&R Block At Home does not support Form 1040NR. One of our H&R Block tax professionals can prepare the nonresident return for you. Locate an H&R Block office near you.

Form 1041 is used to report the income, deductions, gains and losses of estates and trusts.

Form 1099-B — Proceeds From Broker and Barter Exchange Transactions

Form 1099-B is used to report proceeds from securities transactions. The securities transactions are reported on Schedule D on your tax return. Any Form 1099-B you receive may report a single transaction or multiple transactions if you have an account at a brokerage or mutual fund company.

In our online program, enter information reported to you on Form 1099-B in the Sale of Stocks and Other Assets (1099-B) section of the Income interview. To access the interview:

If you're using our desktop version, you'll enter your 1099-B into the Sale of Stocks, Bonds, Mutual Funds, and Investment Property (1099-B) section of the Income interview. Follow the steps below to access the interview:

Form 1099-DIV — Dividends and Distributions

Form 1099-DIV is used to report dividends and capital gain distributions from stocks and mutual funds. The following information shown on Form 1099-DIV is needed or may be used when preparing your return:

Form 1099-INT is used to report interest income paid to individuals.

Form 1099-R — Distributions From Pensions, Annuities, etc.

Form 1099-R is used to report to you any distributions to you from all kinds of retirement plans, including IRAs.

Form 1099-R is also used to report certain types of distributions that are not treated as retirement payments, such as disability payments made before you reach retirement age and distributions from charitable gift annuities.

In our online program, enter information reported to you on Form 1099-R in the Retirement Income (1099-R) section of the Income interview. To access the interview:

Form 1098-T — Tuition Statement

Form 1098-T is an informational form used by eligible educational institutions to report information about their students to the IRS. The form is sent to students to alert them they may be eligible for federal income tax education credits. Only expenses paid to an eligible educational institution qualify for a tax break, and all eligible educational institutions are required to send Form 1098-T to their students.

Where do I enter information from Form 1098-T in the H&R Block At Home Program?

Online

In our online program, enter information reported to you on Form 1098-T in the Education Tax Breaks: Credits, Tuition, and Fees (1098-T) section of the Credits interview. To access the interview:
  1. Click Take Me To.
  2. Scroll down to the Credits section.
  3. Click Education Tax Breaks: Credits, Tuition, and Fees (1098-T).

If you're using our desktop version, you'll enter your 1099-B into the Tuition Expenses section of the Credits interview. Follow the steps below to access the interview:

Form 1120S — U.S. Income Tax Return for an S Corporation

Form 1065 is used to report the income, gains, losses, deductions, credits, etc. of a domestic corporation or other entity for any tax year covered by an election to be an S corporation.

Form 8379 — Injured Spouse Allocation

A taxpayer may be an injured spouse if he or she files a joint tax return and all or part of the taxpayer's portion of the refund was, or is expected to be, applied (offset) to a legally enforceable past-due debt owed only by the taxpayer's spouse. IRS Form 8379 is used by an injured spouse to recover his or her share of the joint refund.

Can I use H&R Block At Home to file Form 8379?

You can complete Form 8379 using the desktop version of H&R Block At Home. To access the interview, follow the steps below:
  1. Click Take Me To.
  2. Scroll down to the scellaneous section.
  3. Select Injured Spouse Allocation.
  4. Click the Go To button.

Schedule K-1

A Schedule K-1 is the form used to report the income a beneficiary derives from an estate or trust, a partner receives from a partnership, or a shareholder receives from a corporation during the applicable tax year.

Where do I enter information from Schedule K-1 in the H&R Block At Home Program?

Online

In our online program, enter information reported to you on Schedule K-1 in either the Partnership, S corporations, and LLCs (Schedule K-1) or Estate and Trust Income (Schedule K-1) section of the Income interview depending on which entity created the Schedule K-1. To access the interview:
  1. Click Take Me To.
  2. Scroll down to the Income section.
  3. Click Education Partnership, S corporations, and LLCs (Schedule K-1) or Estate and Trust Income (Schedule K-1).

Software

If you're using our desktop version, you'll enter your Schedule K-1 into the Income interview in either the Business, Rental, Partnership, Farm, and Royalties section for a Schedule K-1 from a Partnership or S-Corp, or the Investments section for a Schedule K-1 from an Estate or Trust.

If you received a Schedule K-1 from a Partnership or S Corp, follow the steps below to access the Business, Rental, Partnership, Farm, and Royalties interview:
  1. Click Take Me To.
  2. Scroll down to the Business, Rental, Partnership, Farm, and Royalties section under Income.
  3. Select Partnerships and S Corps (K-1).
  4. Click the Go To button.

If you received a Schedule K-1 from an Estate or Trust, follow the steps below to access the Investments interview:
