Finding answers to your tax questions is now less taxing.
If I owe back child support, will my refund be delayed?
Yes. The Department of Treasury's Financial Management Service (FMS) might delay or offset your refund to pay your debt.
Contact your debt agency to determine if they submitted your debt for a tax refund offset. You can call the FMS at 800-304-3107 or TDD 866-297-0517 for the agency's address and phone number.
If your debt was submitted for offset, the FMS will take as much of your refund as needed to pay off the debt and send it to the agency you owe. The IRS will then give you a check or direct deposit for any remaining refund.
