How much does it cost to load a check to my card with Check to Card?

For Printed Payroll or Government checks a fee of 2% of the check amount is applied. (Example: $100 check = $2 charge and $98 loaded to your H&R Block Emerald Prepaid MasterCard®.)

For all other check types a fee of 4% of the check amount is applied. (Example: $100 check = $4 charge and $96 loaded to your Emerald Card®.)

The minimum fee is $2.

How do I know it's safe to load a check, and how is my information protected?

In addition to entering your card number and 4-digit PIN when you log into the Emerald Card Mobile Banking App™, we use multiple security layers, including advanced encryption. For your added security, passwords and actual check deposit records or images are not stored on your mobile device.

What is Check to Card?

Check to Card allows you to load a check directly onto your H&R Block Emerald Prepaid MasterCard® (minus a fee) with the Emerald Card Mobile Banking App™.

How do I get started?

To use Check to Card, you need to download the new Emerald Card Mobile Banking App™ to your Android device or iPhone. The app is free.

What type of phone or device do I need to use Check to Card?

An Android device or iPhone.

How long does it take before I see the funds on my Emerald Card?

The average transaction takes 3-5 minutes from when you take a picture of your check and tap the "submit" button, to when the funds are loaded on your Emerald Card. This time may vary based on your mobile device's signal strength, whether you are using Wi-Fi, and other factors.

How will I know that my check funds have been loaded to my Emerald Card?

You will be notified via your mobile device once your check has been processed—and if the funds have been approved or declined. If approved, you must accept the transaction.

Can I load multiple checks to my card at one time?

You can only load one check at a time and up to four checks a day. Additional restrictions may apply. See User Agreement for details.

What do I do with my check after I've loaded it to my Emerald Card?

After you have received a confirmation number that your check has been loaded to your Emerald Card, write "Electronically Submitted" across the front of your check. If your transaction cannot be posted for some reason, H&R Block Bank may ask you to reload the check. Do this only if H&R Block Bank requests it. Keep any checks you've loaded in a secure place for 14 days after they've posted to your account, and then destroy them.

Who can use Check to Card?

Only Emerald Card® cardholders who have downloaded the Emerald Card Mobile Banking App are eligible for the Check to Card service. Emerald Card cardholders are subject to certain eligibility requirements and enrollment is not guaranteed.

What's the smallest check I can load to my Emerald Card? What's the biggest?

The minimum dollar amount you can load is $20 and the maximum is $2,000. Additional restrictions may apply. See User Agreement for details.

What types of checks can I load to my card?

Checks that are payable to you, the Emerald Card cardholder.

Only checks from within the United States and drawn from a U.S. bank in U.S. dollars can be loaded.

What types of checks can NOT be loaded to my card?

Checks that are not written to you, the Emerald Card cardholder.

Checks that are not dated, are postdated, or are more than six months old.

Credit card checks and starter checks. (Starter checks are the checks you get when you open a checking account, without your name or address on them.)

Checks that are below $20 or above $2,000.

Can I use Check to Card to load Money Orders to my card?

Yes. You can load a Money Order the same way you load a check. Just tap, snap, and go!
