IRS Notice CP2566
We Still Have Not Received Your Form 1040 – You Must File Your Tax Return
Type of Notice: Late Return
Most common tax problem area: Unfiled returns
Why you received IRS Notice CP2566
- The IRS never received a tax return from you for the year specified on your notice.
- The IRS sent you previous notices asking you to file a tax return because it had not received one, but the IRS never received a response.
- The IRS has completed a tax return for you and has calculated your tax, penalties and interest based on wages and other income reported to the IRS.
Your options to address IRS Notice CP2566
- File a return
- Make arrangements to pay
- Dispute the penalties
Notice deadline: 30 days
If you miss the deadline: The IRS will process the return as they have calculated it and assess tax, penalties and interest and send you a bill for the balance due. This amount is likely to be much higher than what you would owe if you filed your own return because when the IRS calculates the taxes you owe, it does so at the highest tax rate and with no deductions.
