I have a question about the tax extension deadline. Once I have filed for a tax extension using Form 4868, what is the new filing extension deadline?
When you request extension, the new tax extension deadline is Oct. 16, 2017 for filing your federal return.
However, if you estimate that you’ll owe taxes, you must do both of these before midnight on April 18, 2017:
- File extension of time forms for your federal return and any applicable state returns.
- Pay any taxes due. The extension doesn't extend your time to pay, it is only an extension of your time to file.
File your federal extension by completing Form 4868.
Ready to file?
You've got your forms. And we've got your back. There's only one thing left to do. Let's do this.
So how much will you get (or owe) this year? That’s the million-dollar question. We happen to have three very useful calculators to help you estimate your refund or balance due.
