Return to income

I have a question about Form 1099 income. If I received a W-2 and a 1099 from my company, do I report my income on Form 1099 Schedule C?

p>If you received Form 1099 for your work as an independent contractor, report it on Form 1099 Schedule C.

However, if you think all your income should be W-2 income, request your employer give you a corrected W-2. This can include current Form 1099 income. It should also include all taxes withheld from your wages. When your employer has the ability to control the details of your work, you're considered an employee. So, your employer should give you a W-2.

If you can't obtain a new W-2:

  • Report your 1099 income as wages on your return.
  • File Form 8919 with your return.
  • Attach the Form 1099 to the return.
