I received Form 1099-R after filing return. What should I do?
If you received Form 1099-R after filing return, you’ll need to amend your return by filing Form 1040X.
- Wait about two to three weeks after filing your original return. That gives the IRS time to process the original return first.
- Mail the 1040X, since you can’t e-file it.
The IRS won't open an audit simply because you file an amended return. But, there are things you should know about filing Form 1040X.
