Question

I received Form 1099-R after filing return. What should I do?

Answer

If you received Form 1099-R after filing return, you’ll need to amend your return by filing Form 1040X.

You should:

  • Wait about two to three weeks after filing your original return. That gives the IRS time to process the original return first.
  • Mail the 1040X, since you can’t e-file it.
