Company honored as El Dorado Corporation of The Year

The Kansas City Hispanic Chamber of Commerce recognized H&R Block Thursday night for supporting the Hispanic Community. H&R Block received the El Dorado Corporation of the year award, given for initiatives that make a positive difference in the growth of Hispanic business, during the chamber’s Noche de Gala.

The selection of the El Dorado Corporation of the year was based on nominations for the impact H&R Block has on small businesses, helping complete accurate tax returns and providing tax education to the Hispanic community. A member of the Kansas City Hispanic Chamber of Commerce since 2001, H&R Block is a regular participant at community festivals and education events including weekly participation at the Mexican Consulate.

“We are proud of our associates who live and work in the very communities they serve. We are proud of the commitment H&R Block has made to Kansas City and the commitment Kansas City has made to H&R Block,” said Greg Macfarlane, Senior Vice President, U.S. Retail Products and Operations.

H&R Block serves the Kansas City area with more than 60 retail tax offices

  • H&R Block employs approximately 18,000 bilingual tax professionals and client service professionals.
  • The company has more bilingual tax and office professionals than any other tax company.
  • An H&R Block branded retail office is located within five miles of most Americans.
  • H&R Block tax professionals are trained to help address the many roadblocks Latinos face when trying to file their taxes.
  • H&R Block products include free ITIN services, the award winning Emerald Card and tax education.

H&R Block tax professional and office manager Jose Colunga sees firsthand the impact he and his colleagues have on their clients’ lives. “The people here, the clients that come in the door, getting to meet new faces and being able to help the best I can. That’s what brings me into work every day. Getting out into the community and building that trust with them and saying we are here to help. We do it all, taxes, ITIN and just building that trust. It is important.
