Health and Human Services (HHS) has indicated that the open enrollment period for those wishing to obtain health care insurance on the state or federal marketplaces will be Nov. 15, 2014 through Feb. 15, 2015. H&R Block recently sent a letter to HHS Secretary Burwell recommending open enrollment be extended to April 30, 2015 to encompass an entire tax season instead of just a few weeks.
Pending approval, this extension would help alleviate confusion of the tax and enrollment deadline, address affordability concerns, as well as assist taxpayers with better understanding their tax and health care insurance options.
