No. You can’t cancel the return after it has been e-filed<\/a>.<\/p>\n

If you need to change any information in the return, you can only make changes to your return if the IRS rejects it.<\/p>\n

If the IRS accepts your return, you must use Form 1040-X to file an amended return to fix the mistake.<\/p>\n

To prepare your amended correct tax return:<\/p>\n

First, check that your return is exactly as you originally filed it and no changes have been made. Make sure you have a copy of your original return in a printed or .pdf form. You won’t be able to get another copy of the original return once you amend it.<\/p>\n

Then:<\/p>\n

  1. Go to Overview<\/b> on the top navigation bar.<\/li>\n
  2. Under Tax Filing Resources<\/b> on the bottom right, click File an amended return<\/b>. This option is available after your return is e-filed and accepted.<\/li>\n
  3. Follow the steps to amend your return.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    You might owe a balance due after amending your return. If so, you should pay it by the tax deadline<\/a> to avoid penalties and interest.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
