They also send a copy to you. The forms and your reported income are then matched as your tax return is processed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Additional schedules<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to the 1099 forms, you\u2019ll use these Schedules for your side employment income:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hrblock.com\/tax-center\/irs\/forms\/what-is-a-schedule-c-tax-form\/\">Schedule C<\/a>:<\/strong> Use this schedule to report your business income and expenses. You\u2019ll file this schedule with your Form 1040 tax return for each business.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Schedule E<\/strong>: Use this schedule to report rental income and royalties from property if your side job involves renting or selling real estate.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.blockadvisors.com\/resource-center\/small-business-tax-prep\/schedule-se\/\"><strong>Schedule SE<\/strong><\/a><strong>:<\/strong> Because your employer doesn\u2019t withhold <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hrblock.com\/tax-center\/small-business\/self-employed\/self-employment-tax\/\">self-employment taxes<\/a> for your side gig and self-employed activities, you\u2019ll need to pay self-employment tax on your side gigs on your own, if you earn more than $400 in a year in self-employment income. Schedule SE calculates and reports how much tax to pay. Self-employment tax covers your Social Security and Medicare contributions, or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hrblock.com\/tax-center\/filing\/fica-taxes\/\">FICA tax<\/a>, which are 15.3%. (For W-2 wage earners, the rate is 7.65% and the employer pays the other 7.65%.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The information on these Schedules will flow to your individual tax return, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hrblock.com\/tax-center\/irs\/forms\/form-1040\/\">IRS Form 1040<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to report side hustle income from multiple side jobs<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s important to understand how to report side job income to stay on top of your taxes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When you accurately report all income\u2014including gig jobs\u2014you\u2019ll avoid potential headaches and even penalties and fines. Stay on top of freelance taxes by learning how to file taxes as a gig worker or with multiple income streams:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"1\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Determine if you need to file a return:<\/strong> If your self employment net earning exceed $400, you must file a tax return and pay self-employment tax.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Collect tax forms: <\/strong>Collect the 1099 forms\u2014like 1099-Ks and 1099-NECs\u2014each payor or processor sends. Collect form W-2 if applicable.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Add up your income: <\/strong>Sum the total earnings from all jobs.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Calculate your net earnings: <\/strong>Lower your taxable income by deducting business-related expenses using Schedule C.
