The IRS might issue you an identity protection PIN (IP PIN)<\/a> to use for filing your federal return if you were a victim of identity theft or fraud. This helps to ensure that someone else can\u2019t file a return using your personal information. If you\u2019re using H&R Block software<\/a>, your IP PIN should be entered into the software during the process of filing your return.<\/p>\n

To enter your IP PIN into H&R Block:<\/p>\n

  1. Open your return in the H&R Block Tax Software.<\/li>\n
  2. Click Federal\u00a0<\/strong>on the top navigation bar.<\/li>\n
  3. Click\u00a0Misc.<\/strong><\/li>\n
  4. Click Go To\u00a0<\/strong>next to Miscellaneous Home<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
  5. Check the box next to I received an Identity Protection PIN (IP PIN) from the IRS<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
  6. Click\u00a0Next<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
  7. Enter your and \/ or your spouse’s six-digit IP PIN.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Once you\u2019re done with these steps, you\u2019ll be finished entering your IP PIN into your H&R Block software. From there, you can continue with your taxes as normal.<\/p>\n

    If You Don\u2019t Know Your IP PIN for H&R Block Software<\/h2>\n

    If you lost or don\u2019t know your IP PIN, go to the IRS Retrieve Your Identity Protection PIN<\/a> (IP PIN) webpage.
