Notice of Privacy Policy Updates
Protecting your privacy is important to us. Keeping you informed of our privacy practices is part of our process to accomplish this protection. Effective December 10, 2013, we will make some changes to our privacy notice. These changes are important to how we do business and important to your privacy rights.
As we have expanded our products and services and how our clients interact with us, we have developed multiple privacy notices. This approach is somewhat complicated and is at odds with our business goals. Accordingly, we are combining many of the privacy notices that previously governed our digital products (including, but not limited to, online tax preparation products and services, My H&R Block, and mobile applications). While we have kept a few separate privacy notices for legal or other reasons, we feel that this combined notice will simplify our privacy practices.
What does this mean to you, and what is changing? You will be able to more easily find our privacy practices regarding what information we collect, how we use it, and how you may limit these practices. You will have fewer privacy notices to review as you interact with the various products and services offered by the H&R Block family of companies.
Some notable changes involve your use of mobile devices. When you use a mobile device to interact with us, we may ask for your permission to call or provide you directions to a local H&R Block office. We may ask permission to access your calendar to save appointment information. We may also ask you permission to complete other tasks connected with receiving a service from us, including accessing the internet, storing information on your device, waking/locking your mobile device, or authorizing in-app purchases.
Another notable change involves modifying our process to only offer relevant online advertisements to you. In order to provide you with relevant advertisements and offers when you visit our website and certain other third-party websites, we may share pseudonymous client data with our third-party advertising partners and their service providers regarding transactions conducted on our website, at one of our retail offices, or with one of our independent franchisees. We believe this new combined privacy notice will make it easier for you to understand our privacy practices and will improve our products and services. We also believe that the modifications to our privacy notice help us better service our clients by providing relevant and timely information to them. Please read our new privacy notice to learn more about the changes we are making and understand the controls we offer.
