Which states have no income tax?

Alaska, Florida, Nevada, New Hampshire, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Washington and Wyoming. However, New Hampshire taxes interest and dividend income, as well as income from an unincorporated business, rental, farm or gambling activity. Tennessee taxes interest and dividend income only.

How can I buy H&R Block State Edition software?

State-only software is available for download only. The Basic, Deluxe, Premium, and Premium & Business software packages can be purchased with one state program included.

Can I e-file my state tax return?

Yes, the H&R Block State Edition software offers e-filing for an additional charge. You cannot e-file states without income tax.

How do I file a non-resident or part-year resident state tax return using H&R Block State Edition software?

Most nonresident and part-year resident state returns can be filed using H&R Block State Edition software. We support e-filing part-year and / or nonresident returns for:

  • California
  • Georgia
  • Illinois
  • Kansas
  • Maryland
  • Massachusetts
  • Missouri
  • New Jersey
  • New York
  • North Carolina
  • Ohio (nonresidents, W-2 only)
  • Oregon
  • Pennsylvania

All other state part-year and nonresident returns must be printed and mailed.Washington D.C., Delaware, Hawaii, Louisiana, North Dakota, and Vermont programs don’t include part-year / nonresident forms.

How do I file more than one state tax return with H&R Block State Edition software?

When filing multiple state tax returns for the same taxpayer, up to three state tax returns may be e-filed. Any additional state returns must be printed and mailed.
