Which residential energy-efficient property credit deductions are available for second homes?

Answer

You’re eligible for the residential energy-efficient property credit if you have installed any of these:

  • Solar water heating
  • Solar power panels
  • Small wind systems
  • Geothermal heat pumps
  • Fuel cell technology — principal residence only

With the exception of the Fuel cell Residential Energy Efficient Property Credit Second homes will qualify under the Residential Energy Efficient Property Credit. Rentals qualify for neither credit, the residential energy-efficient property credit deduction nor the nonbusiness energy property credit
