If you’re self-employed and haven’t incorporated, file a Schedule C. Report your business income and business expenses.

You’re required to report all income earned. You’re also entitled to deduct all the ordinary and necessary business expenses you paid. Claiming expenses self-employed may include:

  • Supplies
  • Small tools
  • Rent

To learn more about claiming expenses self-employed and otherwise, and which business expenses you can claim, see Publication 535: Business Expenses at www.irs.gov.
