Do I Need to Report Federal Estimated Tax Payments?
Income tax is a pay-as-you-go system. If you’re an employee, your taxes are paid through withholding (set by your W-4 instructions). Certain taxpayers (Ex: self-employed or contractors) don’t complete Form W-4 and must instead send federal and state estimated taxes payments throughout the year along with Form 1040-ES. You’ll need to include those amounts as part of preparing your return.
